Description
The VLITEX fire blanket PLUS fire blanket is the logical evolution fire blanket our proven PREMIUM fire blanket battery and vehicle fires. It was specifically designed to provide emergency responders with an even higher level of safety and to further improve the control of electric vehicle fires.
With the PREMIUM PLUS, VLITEX fire blanket the world’s first fire blanket that combines a controlled degassing system with an integrated pulley system for secure attachment to the vehicle. Both technologies were specifically developed to address typical challenges associated with vehicle and battery fires and to further enhance the safety of emergency responders throughout the entire operation. With this, VLITEX is setting new standards in the field of textile fire containment.
Innovative safety features for demanding applications
One of the key innovations of the PREMIUM PLUS is the new gas release system. Two specially designed openings in the center of the ceiling allow hot, toxic, and potentially flammable gases to escape in a controlled manner in the event of a fire. This reduces the buildup of these gases beneath the ceiling.
This development is based on findings from numerous fire tests and practical experience. Vehicle fires, and particularly lithium-ion battery fires, can release large quantities of flammable gases. These gases can fire blanket beneath a fire blanket . If the blanket is subsequently lifted or oxygen enters the space beneath it, the accumulated gases can ignite suddenly. Open-cell or insufficiently gas-tight blanket materials are particularly problematic in this context. Due to the open-pored structure, oxygen can continuously penetrate from the outside into the area beneath the blanket. This creates a dangerous, flammable oxygen-gas mixture that can accumulate beneath the blanket. Even small ignition sources or the opening or movement of the blanket can then lead to a sudden deflagration or an explosive burn-through.
The gas release system was developed to enable controlled degassing and significantly reduce the buildup of flammable gases beneath the ceiling.
The Gas Release System is complemented by the new Safe Pull System. fire blanket the fire blanket has been placed over the vehicle, a circumferential cable system allows it to be pulled tightly against the vehicle. As a result, emergency responders no longer have to manually position the blanket around the vehicle and unnecessarily approach the danger zone.

Successful live-fire test with an electric vehicle
For the real-world test, a Tesla equipped with a 100 kWh high-voltage battery, 400-volt architecture, and a total of 7,920 18650 cells was used. The battery cells were based on NCA (nickel-cobalt-aluminum) chemistry and had a state of charge of approximately 40% at the time of the test.
At the start of the operation, the burning vehicle body was doused with water to allow emergency personnel to approach safely. Two to four people then pulled the VLITEX fire blanket PLUS over the vehicle. Using the integrated SAFE PULL system, the blanket was then pulled tight against the vehicle and secured from a safe distance. This meant that emergency responders did not have to remain unnecessarily close to the source of the fire.
Immediately after the blanket was placed over the vehicle, the temperature in the surrounding area dropped significantly. Flames and heat were contained beneath the blanket, while smoke production was greatly reduced. At the same time, the gases generated during the thermal runaway were able to escape in a controlled manner through the integrated vent openings (Gas Release System), thereby limiting the fire in a controlled manner.
