VLITEX Fire Blanket SUPERIOR
For special applications, this fire-rated ceiling is used. It is made of silica, a particularly temperature-resistant glass fiber fabric. The material is coated with vermiculite. The VLITEX SUPERIOR fire protection blanket is therefore suitable for sensitive areas where silicone must not be used.
Description
Fire limiting blankets for special cases
Silica is known for its excellent thermal and refractory properties. It is a non-combustible material that can withstand high temperatures while not releasing harmful fumes.
Silica fireproofing blankets have high density and strength. At the same time, they are so thin that they can be easily stored and transported. The material has a low thermal conductivity. The blanket is suitable to isolate battery fires and minimize the spread of heat and smoke.
Its behavior in case of use predestines the VLITEX fire protection blanket SUPERIOR for single use: Silica has a very high melting point, but the material will shrink on contact with high heat.
Product data
Fire blanket, flame protection cover, fire protection fabric – although the names differ, the essential function remains the same: The SUPERIOR fire barrier blanket, made of fire-resistant silica fabric, is strategically placed over the blazing fire and efficiently smothers conventional fires by cutting off the oxygen supply. In the event of a burning battery, it creates effective insulation that prevents the spread of flames. In just a few seconds, it offers a decisive safety factor.
Suitable for all vehicles including SUVs
Suitable for parking lots, parking garages, fire stations, charging stations, underground garages, workshops, car ferries, gas stations and many more.
Weight: approx. 600 g/m²
25+ inserts – depending on the condition of the ceiling (cracks, cuts, etc.)
Sizes on request.
This applies to the VLITEX fire blanket SUPERIOR. The silica fiber reacts on contact with heat and contracts strongly. This is why we advise not to use the blanket several times.
Both silica and silicone-coated fiberglass are effective materials for fire-rated blankets, but there are some differences:
Material and properties
- Silicone-coated glass fiber fabric: Glass fiber fabric is a material consisting of extremely fine glass fibers. It is known for its resistance to high temperatures, its excellent tensile strength and its good insulating properties. The silicone coating improves the fire-retardant properties of the fabric, ensures an increased smothering effect and thermal insulation of the fire. It also contributes to increased resistance to weathering, UV radiation and chemical influences.
- Silica (silicon dioxide): Silica fiber fabric has a high proportion of pure silicon dioxide. It has an even higher temperature resistance than glass fiber fabric and retains its strength and flexibility even at extremely high temperatures. It is also chemically inert, which means that it does not react with most chemicals.
Temperature resistance
- The temperature resistance of silicone-coated glass fiber fabric depends on the type of glass fiber. PREMIUM from VLITEX can withstand temperatures of up to 1,000 °C, and even 1,300 °C for short periods.
- Silica fiber fabric withstands temperatures of up to 1,500 °C.
Costs
- Silica blankets are usually more expensive than blankets made of silicone-coated glass fiber fabric due to the higher cost of the pure silica fibers.
- While blankets made of special glass fiber fabric can be used several times depending on the fire load, the silica blanket is a purely disposable product because its fibers shrink when exposed to heat.
